Literary Analysis Of The Autobiography The Hiding Place

The Hiding Place tells the story of Corrie’s experiences as a leader in the Jewish Underground Railroad. The story begins on the one hundredth anniversary for the ten Boom Watch Shop. Haarlem in Holland is the home of the family. Casper is a very generous and religious father. Each morning, Casper’s family and his employees read the Bible. In 1937, Nazism was a growing problem. The Dutch house is where the story takes place. The book goes back in time to Corrie’s childhood and shows how she grew and what made her the person she is today. The ten Booms are a great addition to the community. Corrie, her mother, and Betsy lived in this house. They built a room where Jews could hide from the Nazis during wartime. Cory was constantly battling in her head about whether the actions they took were right. However, she kept reminding herself that this is what God would’ve done. Cory had a list with connections that could help her to protect the Jews. Someone is assisting them in obtaining ration cards and other ways to avoid police. It was difficult to maintain the business of the family while also keeping secret what really went on in the Beje. They prepared for days and weeks in anticipation of the raid. They are always prepared for any situation. The day came. They were saved because the Jews who were hiding weren’t found. But the German police learned that Corrie, her father, and Betsie were the real problem in Haarlem and were the ringleaders. They were separated and arrested. Betsie was imprisoned with Corrie for two months while Betsie was kept in solitary confinement. Unfortunately, the father died 10 days after being arrested. Cory fell ill and was put in solitary for a few months to stop the spread of illness. Corrie made the most out of the situation in her cell. She decorated her room to make it less boring. Even though she was ill, she wasn’t treated better. Cory received some needed items from a kind doctor. Nollie was in jail when she sent Cory an envelope containing four Gospels. She had since given the package away. The doctor gave her a bible and some other items, such as needles and thread. The other inmates whispered each other asking for their names to find out whether they were with family or knew anyone about them. Betsie discovers that Corrie is in the exact same prison. They were later moved to different people and were able speak about what happened.

–Taylor,

Nice summary. You did a great job of highlighting the main points and not rambling on. It was a nice introduction to the book.

You’ll need a page number, a header and your lastname. You can ask me to show you the way if you’re not sure. There should be paragraphs as well as transitions. This paper shouldn’t be one paragraph. You switch between the present and past tense. Your opening sentences were underlined to help you understand the differences. Your sentences have a couple of spelling mistakes and commas missing.
